Nov. 2, 2023 – The publicly elected Board of Directors has named Allen Radner, MD as Interim CEO of Salinas Valley Health. The decision was announced during open session following a special board meeting on Wednesday, November 1. Dr. Radner will assume the role effective December 1, 2023.

The Board will continue the process toward a nationwide search for a permanent replacement for Pete Delgado, who announced his resignation last month. Delgado has served Salinas Valley Health as President/CEO for more than decade.

Delgado’s commitment to the organization and to the health of the community is evident in legacy milestone achievements during his tenure focused on exceptional quality in patient care services, expanding access to care and improving overall health and wellness in the community.

The Board’s appointment of an Interim CEO who is knowledgeable of Salinas Valley Health operations allows for a seamless move forward process.

Dr. Radner joined the medical staff of Salinas Valley Health in 1994 and for the past ten years has served on the executive team as the healthcare system's Chief Medical Officer. In October 2019, he was named Chief Executive Officer of Salinas Valley Health Medical Clinic, a network of primary and specialty care clinics serving Monterey County with more than 300 physicians. Dr. Radner's knowledge and expertise has resulted in various leadership positions at all three of the area hospitals. As an infectious disease expert, Dr. Radner played a critical role in coordination and support of the medical community's proactive response during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delgado joined Salinas Valley Health in April 2013. Under his leadership, the healthcare system launched a mobile clinic offering free health care services to underserved populations, established an expansive rural health clinic in Gonzales, created a network of primary and specialty care clinics which dramatically expanded access to care, opened a retail pharmacy on the medical center campus, created an Outpatient Infusion Center, addressed the diabetes health threat by creating a new Diabetes & Endocrine Center, established Hartnell College Center for Nursing & Health Sciences in partnership with Salinas Valley Health, led the organization through the process of achieving Magnet designation, achieved national recognition and awards for patient safety and quality, co-sponsored Blue Zones Project Monterey County, and established unprecedented partnerships and collaborations to address the community health needs through education, outreach and free programs.

In addition to advancing organizational goals and community health, Delgado earned numerous personal awards and professional recognition including as co-recipient of the 2022 American Hospital Association Dick Davidson NOVA Award for the Monterey County Diabetes Collaborative, 2021 Top Diversity Leader by Modern Healthcare and 2020 Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
