SALINAS, CA, May 13, 2013- Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System is celebrating National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week with a full schedule of activities for all staff. Monday’s kick-off ceremonies honor Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System’s Nurse and Employee of the Year.
Nurse of the Year
John T. Silveira, RN, Staff Nurse II
John T. Silveira, RN, Staff Nurse II, Ortho/Neuro/Spine (ONS), is Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital’s Nurse of the Year. He joined SVMH in May 1979 as a certified nurse assistant in the ICU and gained experience in several of the hospital’s specialized care units before moving to ONS in April 2012. He earned his RN from New York State University in 1998. In addition to providing outstanding patient care, John is known for his quotes of the day, inspiring through both words and actions. He is not only a positive influence on his co-workers, but on future nurses—as a clinical instructor at Hartnell College School of Nursing from 2007 to 2012.
Employee of the Year
Lisa Cook, OR/Surgical Sterile Tech III
Lisa Cook, OR/Surgical Sterile Tech III, Surgery Department, is Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital’s Employee of the Year. She joined SVMH in October 1990 in the Central Supply department and earned certification as a Surgical Sterile Processing Tech in 2010. Lisa’s colleagues recognize her as a mentor and motivator, with a ready smile and a dance in her step—an attitude she shares with co-workers and patients alike. She is known as an efficient and effective communicator between multiple hospital departments, helping to ensure patient safety during surgery.
