SVMHS Earns Recognition for Quality Respiratory Care for 3rd Consecutive Year

SALINAS, CA, May 3, 2013- Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System has earned the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) for the third consecutive year. SVMHS includes the only hospital in the county and one of only 27 hospitals in the state of California to hold this distinction.

“We are proud to have our respiratory therapists and all of our clinical partners working together to achieve nationally recognized outstanding results,” says Kelsey Gray, MD Respiratory Care Medical Director. “Our commitment is to our patients and this repeated recognition confirms they are receiving the highest standards of respiratory care.”

The QRCR program was developed by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) in 2003 to help consumers identify facilities using qualified respiratory therapists to provide respiratory care. The need for such a program grew from concerns of health care leaders and the public regarding the safety and quality of service for patients. Hospitals earning the QRCR follow a strict set of criteria to ensure quality service.

To qualify for Quality Respiratory Care Recognition, respiratory therapists must be available 24 hours a day; all respiratory therapists who deliver bedside respiratory care must be legally recognized by the state as competent to provide respiratory care services or to hold Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials; and a doctor of medicine or osteopathy is designated as medical director of respiratory care services.  Also, other personnel qualified to perform specific respiratory procedures and the amount of supervision for these procedures must be designated in writing. SVMHS is proud to meet and exceed these standards to earn this distinguished recognition for quality respiratory care.
