SVMHS Recognized For Clinical Achievement

Lab receives national accreditation

Rigorous ED training results in reduced costs

SALINAS, CA – The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has accredited Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital’s main laboratory after an on-site inspection, which was part of the CAP Accreditation Program.  This program is recognized as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.

The CAP Accreditation Program is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all lab patients.  Inspectors examine the lab’s records and quality control of procedures for a two-year period.  Inspectors also examine lab staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety programs and records, and overall management.

In another indication of clinical quality, Beta Healthcare Group, California’s largest provider of professional liability insurance and risk management services, has honored Salinas Valley Memorial’s Emergency Department for successfully completing the Quest for Zero: Tier One.  Quest for Zero is a quality achievement program that allowed Salinas Valley Memorial to demonstrate that it has the policies, procedures and care practices that meet the highest standards in California.   The Emergency Department continues to strive for excellence in patient safety and expects to receive recognition for completing Tier 2 in 2013.

This achievement confirms the Hospital’s commitment to furthering patient safety while reducing costs.  Salinas Valley Memorial will now save 5% on its Emergency Department insurance premiums because of its demonstrated skill level.
