SVMHS ranked as "High Performing" for Ear, Nose and Throat care
SALINAS, CA, August 2, 2011 In its annual Best Hospitals issue, U.S. News & World Report rated Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) as "High Performing" in the care of patients with ear, nose, throat, head and neck disorders and diseases. SVMHS is the only area hospital to achieve High Performing status in any of the 16 categories, and among just 140 of 4,825 hospitals evaluated that performed at this level in even one specialty.
U.S. News Best Hospitals are selected based on four factors: reputation, patient survival, patient safety and care-related factors such as nursing and patient services. Otolaryngologists—more commonly known as Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) physicians— are trained to provide medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the ears, nose and throat (ENT) and related problems affecting the head and neck. Some examples of the types of conditions treated include (ears) hearing loss and balance disorders; (nose) sinusitis and allergies; (throat) voice and swallowing problems; (head and neck) tumors, facial trauma and deformities; and (pediatrics) tonsils and ear tubes.
"We are immensely proud of our team of dedicated physicians who care for hundreds of our patients each year with related conditions both simple and complex," said David Perrott, MD, MBA, Vice President/Chief Medical Officer at Salinas Valley Memorial. "Their expertise has changed lives and restored health and function to people throughout the Central Coast region."
The board-certified ENT physicians at SVMHS who practice in this specialty include Robert Block, MD, Kenneth Nowak, MD, Albert Roller, MD, and Terrence Trapp,MD. Their practice, Central Coast Head and Neck Surgeons, was established in Salinas more than 40 years ago.
