Immunization Clinic at SVMHS Farmers’ Market
Salinas, CA, July 23, 2014 – Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is partnering with Central Coast Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice (VNA) to offer an easy access, low cost immunization clinic in Salinas. The collaboration is an effort to protect the community from pertussis (whooping cough) and help families meet the required immunizations for children returning to school after the summer break.
Potentially life saving vaccines will be offered at the SVMHS Farmers’ Market on Friday, July 25th from 2pm until 6pm. Tdap is a combination vaccine that protects against three potentially life-threatening diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, also known as whooping cough. Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease. It is known for uncontrollable, violent coughing which often makes it hard to breathe. Pertussis most commonly affects infants and young children and can be fatal, especially in babies less than a year old.
Tdap is a required vaccine for students entering the 7th grade. Pregnant women are advised to get a Tdap shot to help protect their unborn children and the vaccine is highly recommended for anyone around newborns, including parents, grandparents and caregivers. The meningococcal meningitis vaccine is also available at the immunization clinic for college bound teenagers. It is a required immunization for freshman entering college.
The clinic will be located in the SVMHS MRI Parking Lot at 450 E. Romie Lane, corner of Wilgart Way and East Romie Lane. VNA is offering the Tdap vaccine for $70.00 and the vaccine for meningococcal meningitis for $130.00. VNA will accept cash and personal checks and provide a receipt for families to seek reimbursement from their insurance provider.
