Breast Cancer Myths, Screening and Surveillance
SVMHS Free Ask The Experts Event
Salinas, CA, May 23, 2014 – Women face an increasing number of new studies, guidelines and information about breast cancer screenings and best practices. Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is holding a free Ask the Experts event to answer questions women have about when to get a mammogram, how often they should get a mammogram and new dense breast tissue notifications.
Medical Director of the Nancy Ausonio Mammography Center at SVMHS, Amy Lantis Stemerman, MD is the featured speaker on May 28th discussing Breast Cancer Myths, Screening and Surveillance. Dr. Lantis Stemerman joined the medical staff at Salinas Valley Memorial, Salinas Valley Imaging and became the Medical Director of the Nancy Ausonio Mammography Center in November 2008. She is certified by the American Board of Radiology and is a member of the American College of Radiology.
Dr. Stemerman will be joined by Clinical Manager of the Comprehensive Cancer Resource Center at SVMHS, Bernadette Lucas- Burch, RN, BSN. Bernadette is the Outpatient Oncology Manager and Breast Health Navigator. She recently helped launch a weekly breast cancer support group at SVMHS Comprehensive Cancer Resource Center, 501 E. Romie Lane in Salinas every Thursday from 1pm to 2pm.
The Nancy Ausonio Mammography Center at SVMHS opened in June of 2010 and last year earned the distinction of being named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. The Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging endorse the designation by the American College of Radiology. The designation is awarded to imaging centers offering the highest standard of care to their patients.
The Ask the Experts free community event on Breast Cancer Myths, Screening and Surveillance will take place Wednesday, May 28 at 6pm. Dr. Lantis Stemerman will be speaking at the Nancy Ausonio Mammography Center, 240 San Jose Street, Salinas. www.svmh.com/mammography There is plenty of free parking available and light appetizers will be served at the event.
